| Term | Explanation |
| Anaphylactic shock | A rare allergic reaction, causing swelling, skin rash and other symptoms. Severe swelling of the air passage will probably lead to brain damage or death |
| Anthrax | Often deadly infectious disease that can cause respiratory or intestinal or skin infections |
| Chain Screen | A series of vertically draped chained links made of aluminium, forming a barrier to flying insects |
| Choke | Limits the voltage passing through a fluorescent lamp |
| Cholera | Acute intestinal infection |
| Circline Lamp | A uv lamp that is formed into a circle |
| Diarrhea | Passing of excessively watery or loose faeces |
| Dysentery | Infection of the intestines that causes diarrhea |
| E.H.T. Transformer | A device that changes voltage |

| Lesser House Fly | Latin: Fannia carnicularis. Similar to a house fly but smaller and less attracted to uv light |

| Pheromone | A chemical secreted by one creature in order to attract (or sometimes repel) another creature |
| PTFE Insulator | Device that holds the electrical grid in place in fly killers and ensure the bars are spaced correctly. This helps prevent insect explosions on contact |
| Safety Switch | Forces the electric supply to turn off when the electric fly killer cover is removed |
| Smart Trap | Device that traps flying insects |
| Synergetic | Working together. In the case of electric fly killers, this where the uv light and green light work together to attract insects |
| Typhoid Fever | Infection that causes multiple symptoms, including diarrhea, headache and weakness |
| Uplighter | A wall mounted fly killer unit whose light shines up the wall |

| UV Light Meter | Measure the output of uv light from uv lamps |
| Worker Wasps | Female wasps that scavenge for food and feed larvae |
